speed = distance covered divided by time spend travelling that distance. or s = d / t If the distance is in miles and the time is in hours then the speed is given in miles per hour. If the distance is in metres and the time is in seconds then the speed is in metres per second. Example: A car travels 60 miles in 2 hours so the speed is 60/2 or 30 miles per hour.
