René Descartes, a French philosopher, was the creator of that famous quote, which was written in Latin - "Cogito, ergo sum", which is translated to "I think, therefore, I am".

He was discussing the logic of deductive reasoning at the time. The quote basically means that if you are wondering whether you exist or not then you must do, otherwise you wouldn't wonder.
