The studs (the verticle boards that hold up a wall behind the drywall in a house) are normally 16" apart. The highlight on each 16 inches 16, 32, 48 etc. on a tape make it easier to build house wall and to do things like hanging a picture on the wall. By finding a single stud in a wall you can locate all of the other studs. (be carefull when the stud you find is near the edge of the wall or opposite where another wall joins the wall from the other side.

you use a map scale by measuring by inches
Multiply distance by the scale bar
The most commonly referred to scale by the press and the public is the Richter scale for measuring earthquake magnitude. However this was actually replaced in the 1970s by the Moment Magnitude scale which is the magnitude scale favoured and in use by seismologists.
The moment magnitude scale (MW) provides an estimate of the total energy released in an earthquake and is currently the preferred magnitude scale in use by seismologists for measuring large (magnitude greater than 7) earthquakes.
the fourth scale for measuring temperature is RANKINE...
a measuring scale is a tool that helps to see how much you weigh
Strictly, it's measuring weight, but most are calibrated to give mass.
