The eighths are0.000, 0.125, 0.250, 0.375, 0.500, 0.625, 0.750, 0.875.

When given a number, you find the fractional part of it and then see which one of the above is nearest to it. That value, appended to the integer part of the number gives you the answer.


For example 86.142857

The fractional part is 0.142857 and the two numbers from the above set which are either side of it are 0.125 and 0.250 Of these, the first is nearer and so the answer is 86.125
