If we were rounding to the nearest tenth we would expect a number like:

156.76 --> 156.80

Remember 10th and 100th come after the decimal.

So in your case:

156 is closer to which 160 or 150? We can count both ways:

157, 158, 159, 160

or

155, 154, 153, 152, 151, 150

We can see it is much close to 160, so we round 156 up to 160 and that is your answer.
