Remember, percent simply means 'to divide by 100' and 'of' means 'to multiply'. 60 % = .6 (60 divided by 100). So, to calculate 60% of $125 you need to multiply $125 x .6, which equals $75.00.
Here's a trick I sometimes use. It's much easier to find 10% of an amount and then multiply it by whatever multiple you need to. For example, to figure 10% of $125 simply move the decimal point one place to the left. $125.00 becomes $12.50 as we move the decimal point. (It's the same as multiplying $125 by .10 as we did in the first example.) Since you now know what 10% is, you just need to multiply $12.50 x 6 (10% x 6 = 60%) which still equals $75.00. The more you practice this, the easier it becomes. You might even surprise yourself by figuring out some of the problems in your head.
