A factor tree is a diagram used to break- up a number by dividing it equally and show you all the different parts of the number.

ex. 18

9 x 2

3 x 3

Then you would multiply the simple numbers or the numbers that can't be divided anymore of them: 3 x 3 x 2 =18.
