I don't know the context of this question, because it really does matter what this is used for. Small is a relative word. If the numbers you're dealing with are like 0.1 or 0.2, if you're off by, say, 10, that's big. But if the numbers you're working with are large like one million, 10 isn't such a big deal. This is a very tough question. If you're doing something like limits (this is for calculus right?), then you want to be infintesimally close to the point. I would ask your teacher.

There are several limitations to the Newton-Raphson method (N-R).1. The method relies on the use of the derivative of the function whose root is being sought.
