A mathematical expression in its' most simplistic form, merely assigns a value to a variable. Don't confuse an expression with an equation. An equation requires a solution. An expression cannot be "solved". It only allows you to determine the value of a variable.
This is the expression in words "x is equal to 3" (X is the variable which is equal to the constant number 3)
This is the expression in numbers "x=3"
The expression in words "y is equal to 6" (Y is the variable which is equal to the constant number 6)
The expression in numbers is "y=6"
I hope you understand now.
I believe the converse is: if 2x equals 6 then x equals 3 inverse: if x doesn't equal 3 then 2x doesn't equal 6 contrapositive: if 2x doesn't equal 6 then x doesn't equal 3
(3 * 3)(2 * 5) (9)(10) 90
9x + 8y = (9 x 6) + (8 x 3) = 54 + 24 = 78
If the expression is (x - y)2, the solution is (7 - -2)2 = (7+2)2 = 92 = 81. If the expression is x - y2, the solution is 7 - (-2)2 = 7 - 4 = 3.
y = 6 x 3.5; If you can't do that in your head, split it up: 6 x 3 = 18, 6 x .5 = 3, 18 + 3 = 21
3 6
Answer: (x-2) (x2-5x+6)/(x-3) =(X-3)X(X-2)/(X-3) <-You factor the expression (x2-5x+6) and get (x-3)(x-2) =(X-2) <-The (x-3)'s in the numerator and denominator cancel each other out (because an expression divided by the same expression equals one) and thus you are left with (x-2).
60j + 2z = 6
If your expression is 5x + 4 = ? and x = 3, then the answer is 19. If the expression is 5(x + 4) = ? and x = 3, then the answer is 35.
x = -3; y = 6; 6y/x = 6(6)/-3 = 36/-3 = -12
x=y-8 z=x+12
5(5) is 25. 3(-2) is (-6). The expression becomes 25 - (-6). When subtracting a negative number, you actually "add the opposite," so the expression is now 25 + 6 (positive 6 is "the opposite" of -6); the value is 31.
6
When the given expression equals 0 then x = -1/6 and x = -6
3
The value is 1 if (x, y) = (4, 3) and 0 otherwise.
(7 x 7) - (5 x 3)
