log is short for logarithm
log(base a)x=y is the same as saying a^y=x
Normal log is base 10. So if you see log with no subscript after it, it is log base 10.
So when you press the log button on your calculator and put a number after it you are asking 10 to what power =100? And 10 to the second power = 100 so you will get an answer of 2.
A log (base 5)625 you would be asking, 5 to what power is equal to 625? The answer is 4 because 5^4=625
Logarithms are used to simplfy complex calculations. The Richter scale for measuring earth quakes is expressed in the form of a logarithm. A increase of 1 on the scale means an increase of 10 times.
It depends on what calculator you are using. Often, shift log is inverse log, or natural log, but it could have other meanings. Please restate the question and specify the model number of the calculator.
The calculator won't do it.On the calculator, the button marked 10x gives youthe inverse log of the number in the window.
You can calculate that on any scientific calculator - like the calculator on Windows (if you change the options, to display as a scientific calculator). Log base 4 of 27 is the same as log 27 / log 4. You can use logarithms in any base to calculate that - just use the same base for both logarithms.
Shift+log
If you are using a scientific calculator you will have a key labelled "log". To find the logarithm (to base 10) of a number, simply enter "log" followed by the number that you want to log. If you want a natural logarithm - log to the base e - use the "ln" key instead. If you haven't got a scientific calculator, use the one on your computer.
Ever heard of calculator?? log to base 10 = 0.0367087, natural log, 0.08452495
You should use a calculator for a question like this. It is quicker and simpler. Log(14) = 1.15
The anti-log is "10^x" listed above the "LOG" key on a TI-86 calculator. All you have to do to use it is press the yellow "2nd" key (this means shift) and then press the "LOG" key.
log 1.630 = 0.2122 I just put 1.63 into a calculator, pressed Log, and read the answer to four significant places.
On my CASIO fx-115MS it is the "log" button you need to press the "shift" button then press log and a small "10" will appear on your calculator screen. Hope this helps...
you see, i don't know.
On my calculator it is the same key as the log key, but you have to press the "Shift" key first. It is shown as 10â– .
