A mixed number can be converted into an improper fraction.

Mixed numbers as improper fractions can be divided just like any other fraction.

To convert a mixed number to an improper fraction multiply the whole number by the denominator and add the original numerator to give the new numerator and put this over the original denominator.

Why is multiplying mixed numbers less than dividing mixed numbers with fractions?

It depends on the numbers. For example, dividing by 1 1/2 (one and a half) is exactly the same as dividing by 3/2, since both represent the same number. In general, if you divide by a larger number, the result will be less.

What do adding and subtracting mixed numbers means?

To combine the fractions or subtract the fractions. Same method with mixed numbers.

How is adding mixed numbers the same as adding fractions?

Mixed numbers can be converted to improper fractions. Then, it is exactly the same as adding proper ones.

Is a mixed number into a mixed fraction the same thing?

Mixed numbers and mixed fractions are the same thing.

How do add mixed improper fraction?

Mixed numbers can be converted to improper fractions. Improper fractions can be added the same way proper fractions are.

How do you Multiply three or more mixed numbers.?

Convert them to improper fractions and proceed the same way you would multiply two fractions.

How do you divide a negative mixed fraction by a positive mixed fraction?

It is the same as dividing two positive mixed fractions except that at the end of it all, you put a negative sign in front.

What are mixed fractions and how do they work?

Mixed Fractions are fractions that have whole numbers and fractions on the side.If you are trying to change them into improper fractions you take the denominator of the fraction and multiply it by the whole number and keep the same numerator. ex.: 2 and one fourth =

When asked to find the sum of two mixed numbers with different denominators you should before you add?

Convert the fractions into equivalent fractions with the same denominator. In actually adding mixed numbers, it is easier to convert the mixed numbers into improper (top heavy) fractions, do the addition, simplify the resulting fraction and convert any resulting improper fraction back into a mixed number.

How do you find the sum of two mixed numbers?

To find the sum of two mixed numbers, turn the mixed numbers into improper fractions (multiply the base with the denominator and add the numerator), then add the two fractions. To add the two fractions, find the LCD (lowest common denominator) and add the two numerators, but leave the denominators the same.

Adding mixed numbers with unlike denominators?

First convert the mixed numbers into "top heavy (or "improper) fractions". Now multiply each of the improper fractions by each other - this makes the denominators the same. Now you can add both the fractions together (and cancel down if necessary).

What is the definition of dividing fractions and mixed numbers?

The definition is the same as the definition of just about any division. Dividing by a number can be defined as multiplying by the reciprocal of the number. The reciprocal is the number which, when multiplied by a number, results in a product of 1. For example, dividing by 2 is defined as multiplying by 1/2 (since 2 x 1/2 = 1). Division can also be defined as finding a solution of an inverse multiplication problem. For example, 5 / 2 = x is equivalent to x times 2 = 5; thus, the division can be defined as finding a number that solves the multiplication. Although I didn't use mixed fractions in the above examples, the definitions are exactly the same for mixed numbers.
