Two lines that are in the same plane and never intersect are called "Parallel," meaning that they are lines with the same slope, but not y-intersect.

If the 2 lines lie in the same plane, and they are not parallel, then they will intersect at some point. If the 2 lines are skew lines, then they are not in the same plane, and they will not intersect (but they are Not Parallel)
Here are some: They can be (1) coincident, (2) intersecting at one point, (3) coplanar but non-intersecting (ie parallel), (4) non-coplanar, non-parallel and non-intersecting (eg paths of a rail line and of an elevated road going over it - from above, they may appear to intersect but they do not), (5) intersecting at two points (eg longitudes on the earth). etc.
Never! Coplanar means that the two lines lie in the same two-dimensional plane. The only way that two lines do not intersect in two-dimensional space is if they are parallel. And by definition, skew lines are not allowed to be parallel, either.So essentially there is no such thing as skew lines that only occupy two dimensions. Skew lines must be in three dimensions or higher in order to (1) not intersect and (2) not be parallel with each other.

Any 2 lines can intersect providing that they are not parallel lines
Usually, a transversal is a line that intersects two (or more) parallel lines. In that case the lines and the transversal are coplanar. However, a transversal does not have to intersect parallel lines. And in that case, the lines need not be coplanar. Here's one way to visualise the latter situation. Stand in a cuboid room. Line one = the edge joining the wall opposite you to the ceiling. Line two = the edge joining the wall on your right to the floor. Transvesal = the edge joining the opposite wall to the wall on your right. The transversal meets both the two lines but lines 1 and 2 are not coplanar.
Two lines are coplanar if they both have 2 points in the same plane. So in an X,Y,Z grid, one slope, be it X Y or Z, must be the same for both lines. To find the slope, use Y1-Y2/X1-X2 or replace one of those values with Z. For this particular example, it doesn't matter which is on the numerator, because it is a comparison. ================================ Short-cut: Two lines that intersect are always coplanar.

Coplanar lines are 2 or more lines located on the same plane. Ex.: If you draw 2 or more lines on a graph, they are all coplanar (the plane they are all on is the piece of paper you drew the graph on).
