Circle
Strictly speaking a circle has no face since it is only a set of points, not the area enclosed by that set of points.
When the vertical circle of the theodolite is to the left of observer, it is in face left position. Similarly when the vertical circle is to the right of observer it is in face right position.
Fundamentally it would be a circle. But Elvis favorite would be the shape of a cross.
