First, make sure you understand what the x and y intercepts mean.

When the line intersects or hits the y axis, x must be zero. Just look at the graph to see that.

So if y=4x-14 and we want the y intercept, set x=0, that is to say solve

y=14(0)-14.

Next, for the x intercept, y must be zero.

So solve 0=4x-14.. So solve 14=4x.
