The circumference of a circle is a linear measurement - it is in ordinary metres.

The area of a circle is a square measurement - it is in square metres.

If you know the circumference of a circle (let's call it C), then the area (A) is calculated by first working out the radius (R)

R = (C ÷ 2pi)

A = (pi x R2)
