The volume, v, of a cone is 1/3*pi*r2*h

so r2 = 3*v/(pi*h) = 3*1232/(pi*24) = 154/pi

then r = 7.0014.

Area of curved surface = pi*r*(r2+h2)0.5 = pi*7.0014*(154/pi+576)0.5

= pi*7.0014*25.0004 = 549.9 sq cm

The calculations become much simpler if you use the approximation pi = 22/7

r2 = 154/pi = 154/(22/7) = 154*7/22 = 49 so that r = 7

Then, r2+h2 = 49+242 = 252

So area = pi*7*25 = (22/7)*7*25 = 22*25 = 550 sq cm

How do you get the area of a cilinder?

As a cylinder is a three dimensional object with volume = {pi}r2h (with r the radius of the circular end and h to height of the cylinder), I presume you mean its surface area: There are 2 circular ends with area {pi}r2 each. Plus the curved surface which has one dimension the height of the cylinder, the other the circumference of the circular end, so its area is 2{pi}r x h. So the total surface area of a cylinder = 2 x {pi}r2 + 2{pi}r x h = 2{pi}r(r + h).
