The boundary which defines the area of a circle is known as the circumference of the circle.

However if one wants to be precise, the circumference is the distance around the outside of the circle, not the circle itself. The term "circle" itself means the boundary. It has an interior and an exterior.

A circle can be defined as all the points that are the same distance from a given point.
