The soccer ball is round in three dimensions. It's a sphere. (The Laws of the Game actually specify a spherical ball.)
It isn't called soccer ball because the soccer ball is the ball you use in soccer. See? I have actually heard people call it soccer and soccer ball.
Because it is the name of a thing (sport) it does not show an action or a state. We don't say: He soccered the ball, ( action - He kicked the ball) or: I soccer you, (state - I love you).
