Imperialism split the country apart. (Imperialists/Anti-Imperialists) We hadn't seen this kind of separation since the Civil War. Imperialism led most to not follow the original values our fore fathers set out for us in the Declaration of Independence. We were controlling other countries instead of letting them govern themselves. (e.g. Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Guam) We overall ended up with a better economy, and became a more powerful nation. That's the best I info. I could give. :)

yes! Imperialism
There is no reason for imperialism other than greed and fear. Since the US never really had to fear any country after the War of 1812 I would have to say fear was not a reason for imperialism!
The negative aspect of imperialism was that a powerful nation could become dependent on a colony they created in an under developed nation. Or if they lost a sphere of influence, when that sphere was taken away either by a revolt or a change in domestic policies. Imperialism also had a manpower cost. Military resources were required to keep the benefits of imperialism on going.
A need for cheap labor, Economic competition w/ nations & political/military competition with other nations spurred US imperialism
The US fought them in the Spanish American War.
