That's going to depend on what you'll use the volume to find.There's no single rule that you can use every time you see volume.
Length times Width times Height. Archimedes used a "bathtub", and submerged the object to see what volume of water was displaced.
Once easy way is displacement. You can place it in liquid and see how much liquid it displaces. This will be the volume.
You would use volume to see how much juice is in a jug.
