Numerator on top; denominator on the bottom.
the top adds what the bottom adds. the top subtracts what the bottom subtracts. the top divides what the bottom divides. the top multiplies what the bottom multiplies.
bottom
Top: numerator. Bottom: denominator.

There are two poems that make things easier to remember when reading the melody. The line notes are, from the bottom to the top of the stave: Top line: F= Fruit Second from top: D=Deserves Middle: B=boy Second from bottom: G=Good Bottom: E=Every So you can see that, from bottom to top, they spell out Every Good boy Deserves Fruit. The space notes are: Top: E Second from top:C Second from bottom: A Bottom: F So you can see that, from the bottom to the top, they spell F.A.C.E. The poem to remember is Faces in the spaces. The base cleff stave is a little bit different: The line notes: Top: A=America Second from top: F=From Middle: D=Dogs Second from bottom: B=Big Bottom: G=Great So you can see that, from top to bottom, they spell Great Big Dogs From America. The space notes: Top: G=Grass Second from top: E=Eat Second from bottom: C=Cows Bottom: A=All So you can see that, from top to bottom, they spell All Cows Eat Grass. If there are notes above the stave [and there commonly are] then they are 2 or four or 6 or eight notes above it. For example: there is a note 2 line after the last line at the top, then it means that it is 4 notes after the last note in the stave. That goes for both cleffs and both on top and underneath staves.

The bottom loved the water and iceberg, so it tried to give it a nice big hug. But the iceberg didn't want a hug. It smacked the bottom with its big iceberg hand. The bottom now had a big hole in it! So it had to leave the top and go underwater without it. The top was so alone, it became depressed. So it made the iceberg kill it, too. And that is why the Titantic went underwater not on top.
It is called an improper or vulgar fraction. Or, for obvious reasons, a top-heavy fraction.
