If a number is a perfect square, then you might say that one of its factors

is a factor twice, so the list of factors has an odd number of entries.

Example: 16.

Factors of 16: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16.

One of the "factor pairs" of 16 is [ 4 x 4 ], but '4' only shows up once on the list.
