You can't choose to "become a genius". Well, more accurately, you can choose to do it... it just won't actually happen.

Some people have a natural aptitude for mathematics. Some people don't, but manage to get by through study and hard work. And some people are just hopeless.

Certain types of mathematics favor people who can see a new way to look at a problem. These people may be a whiz at a particular branch of mathematics, but average or worse in other areas that rely more on patient technique instead of on sudden leaps of insight.

If you just want to look like a genius, you could practice some skills that aren't widely known. There are techniques for "counting on your fingers" that essentially allow you to rapidly add and multiply even fairly large numbers. Or just buy and learn to use a slide rule.
