First of all, this question is not clear. How can you have a terminating but repeating fraction? Unless you mean a fraction like 0.234234 that ends but has a pattern. In that case, see Scenario 1.

Scenario 1

For terminating decimals, simply rewrite the decimal as a fraction with a denominator of a multiple of ten (for example, 0.313 => 313/1000) and simplify it as much as possible.

Scenario 2

For repeating decimals, the process is a lot more complicated.

First, figure out the pattern in the repeating decimal. Then write only the first part of the decimal with at least two repetitions of the pattern (for example, 0.123123...) and place ... to signify that the pattern continues.

I will use the decimal number 0.123123... as an example.

Then make one "chunk" of the pattern appear before the decimal point, as in 123.123... Note what power of ten you used to make the decimal number into the number with the "chunk" before the point. In this example it is 1,000 (0.123123... x 1000 = 123.123...)

Then write that power of ten before n, the fraction you are solving for, and then just plain n with its value:

1000n = 123.123...

n = 0.123123...

Then subtract the values. The answer in this case is 999n = 122.

Then get n alone (in this example, divide both sides by 99) and you're all set!

How do you change terminating but reapeating decimal into a fraction Example 0.88888?

It is not possible to have a terminating decimal which repeats or a repeating decimal which terminates. The two types are mutually exclusive.

How do you change 0.888 reapeating to a fraction?

I just learned how to change any repeating decimal to a fraction.It's really neat, cool, ducky, George, bee's knees, etc.-- Take one complete set of the repeating digits in the decimal.-- Write them as a fraction, over the same number of nines.-- Simplify if necessary.Examples:If the decimal is 0.285714285714... , take 285,714/999,999 = 2/7 simplifiedIf the decimal is 0.8888... , take 8/9 (doesn't need to be simplified).

How to write a terminating decimal as a fraction?

any decimal that terminates can be changed into a fraction by dividing the digits to the right of the decimal by 1 followed by the same number of 0s.For example, 2.12345 has 5 digits after the decimal. So, you can change it to a proper fraction by dividing 12345/100000 and then adding the 2, or123452 ---------100000That number can then be simplified to24692 ---------20000by dividing both the top (numerator) and bottom (denominator) by 5.

If a non-terminating decimal that is not a fraction is called irrational what do you call a non-terminating decimal that is a ratio of rational numbers such as 1 over 7?

It is called a rational number. The rational numbers are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (not dividing by 0). The fact that it is not terminating is not important at all. In fact, if we use other bases besides base 10, we will see that the set of numbers that are rational or irrational doesn't change. However, if we use another base, for example base 3, then the number 1/3 in base 3 can be represented with a terminating "decimal" (technically not decimal). The set of rational numbers that have terminating "decimals" depends on the base.

How do you change decimal to the fraction?

A trick for changing a decimal to a fraction is to say it aloud and write it out as how it says like for example .4 = 4/10 and you can simplify it. That would be a way you can change a decimal to a fraction.
