For the perimeter add up all the lengths of the sides.

The area is a bit more complicated as it depends upon the shape. However, by dividing any shape up into smaller shapes, the area for which can be found (eg rectangles: area = length × width; triangles: area = ½ × base × height), the area of the original shape can be calculated as the sum of these areas.
