Two things to remember are:

  1. To convert from percent to regular number, shift the decimal point two places to the left and drop the %. For example, 98% = 0.98, 150% = 1.5, and 0.1% = 0.001.
  2. Whenever you see the word "of" in a word problem, think multiplication. (98% of 200 = 0.98 x 200)

divide the percentage by 100 to get the number that it actually is...

Ex: 40% divided by 100 = 0.40

or..40%/100=0.40
