Tough in a basic text software such as Notepad. In Microsoft Word 2007, you can use Insert > Equation or Insert > symbol. Otherwise, it is acceptable to use the function sqrt(), as in sqrt(4) = +/- 2. Sqrt() is a legal function in most software and programming languages. In Word 2000-2003, use the Insert>Symbol command. The copyright symbol is below the number 4, fourth row down. The way that I insert a degree symbol in my version of Word (2002) is: Insert >> Symbol Font: (normal text) Subset: Latin-1 The degree symbol is the right-most symbol on the seventh line. The name of the symbol is displayed on the bottom left of the symbol window. Also, the hex character code is 00B0. Good luck.
You have to use upper toolbar - Insert - Symbol.
Many programs will autocorrect (c) to the copyright symbol. Otherwise, you can insert a symbol from the keyboard map. In Microsoft Word, for example, select "Symbol" from the "Insert" menu.
In Word 2007 there is a picture icon in the Insert ribbon, in Word 2003 and older you find Insert > Picture in the menus.
