If their measures add up to be 90 degrees, they are complementary. If they add up to 180 degrees they are supplementary (sometimes are called a linear pair).

For example, if I have two angles, a 30 degree angle and a 45 degree angle, they are not complementary because they add up to 75, not 90. However, if I have two angles measured 30 degrees and 60 degrees, they are complementary because they add up to 90 degrees.
