You find the lowest common denominator.

We will use 2 and 3 in our example.

In our case we can just multiply the two together to get 6 But it isn't always that easy, just a good place to start.

Then you take the number over the 2 and multiply by 3 so you get a result of something over 6.

Then you take the number over the 3 and multiply by 2 and end up with something over 6.

So we end up with 3/6 and 2/6

so 3/6 + 2/6 = ?
