To simplify an improper fraction, you use the same process as you would for a proper fraction, which is to divide both the top (numerator) and bottom (denominator) by a number which is a common factor of both (a number which can by multiplied into both numbers).

Example:
88/77= (88/11)/(77/11)=8/7
