When measuring the height of a kicked ball we use time. We take the total time the ball is in the air and cut that in half. That is how long it takes the ball to fall. We use a formula. d=4.9t^2 to find how long it fell in meters. d=16t^2 for feet.

There are a number of other ways. The mass of a player or wrestler.
