The Raspberry Pi is a very small computer developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation Though built with the intention of promoting the teaching of basic computer science in schools, it has proved popular with a large number of computer users of all ages.
The Raspberry Pi has a Broadcom BCM2835 system on a chip. It also has an ARM1176JZF-S 700 MHz processor. The operating system is on a removable SD card. There are no moving parts such as the hard-drive as used in a standard computer.
Basically, the SD card, with the operating system installed, is pushed it to the card reader on the RPi. An ethernet cable and USB mouse and keyboard are plugged in. Either HDMI or video is used to connect to a monitor. Then the power cable is plugged it (there is no on or off switch) and the RPi will boot up.
Though low powered, there are many uses being found for the RPi, as a visit to the forums, a search on the internet and YouTube, will testify.
