Many adult giraffes can run as fast as 30 - 35 miles per hour over short distances. That's just about as fast as a chasing lion can run. A giraffe would not likely be running so fast unless necessary to escape a predator. Giraffes run extending both front legs together and then both back legs, very differently from the way they walk. Please see the accompanying link for many fascinating facts about giraffes.

Yes, while an adult giraffe is both big and tall, all it really takes is a prolonged bite to the throat to kill it, like most prey that big cats hunt. Given the right circumstance, a tiger can kill a giraffe if can manage to knock it down off it's feet and to the ground, which is how most lion prides typically bring down adults. There have been few accounts of one lion hunting an adult giraffe successfully on it's own, so a tiger can very well do the same. But a giraffe's kick could also easily kill or seriously injure a tiger if it's not careful.
