2400 tiles if you don't get any extra
If the tiles are 12 inches square... 8352 tiles ! However if they're 12 feet square... 58 tiles
If they are 12 inches x 12 inches then you would need 399 tiles.

12 x 12 tiles cover 144 ft2, so the number of tiles needed is 1800/144, which equals 12.5.

If they are 1 ft x 1 ft tiles, don't u need 104 of them?
If your tiles are 12 x 12, 368 would cover it. Buy extra for breakage.
240 square tiles are needed
550 sq feet = 550*12*12 = 79200 sq inches. 20"x20" = 400 sq inches. So number of tiles required = 79200/400 = 198 That is the mathematical answer. It assumes that the 550 square feet shape is such that every offcut can be reused (not so easy if it is 550 sq feet in a circular shape!), that you cut every tile perfectly, there are no breakages, etc. In real life, depending on your level of skill, get at least 5% more tiles.
If your tiles are 12 inches by 12 inches they are equal to 1 sq ft, so you would need 54 tiles.
