Five. (Even a non-regular pentagon has 5 diagonals).
Pentagon
a Pentagon has 5 diagonals, they form a star inside the polygon
A polygon with n vertices has n*(n-3)/2 diagonals. Therefore, a pentagon, which has 5 vertices, has 5*(5-3)/2 = 5 diagonals.

You need to draw one diagonal. Look at the hexagon and then look at a pentagon. The triangle should stand out pretty well then.
A regular pentagon can always be drawn through any two given points with those two points as any two vertices of the pentagon. (Diagonals of a pentagon connect two vertices which are not next to each other.)
