The word mile comes from the Latin "mille passus" (a thousand paces) A pace is he distance between the placement of ones left or right foot and the next time it strikes the ground. The Roman mile was about 1,620 yards compared the modern mile's 1,760 yards.
However given the variability of strides and leg lengths 1000 paces per mile is a good value. There are therefore 5,000 paces in 5 miles or 10,000 individual footfalls.

How many footsteps are in 1.5 miles?

It depends on the person. My footsteps are about 3 feet when walking. So mine would be about 2640. Most people would be closer to 3000 though.

How many foot steps equal 5 miles?

1 mile is 5280 feet. so my guess would be 26400 Obviously this depends on foot size, so we need a standard. The roman soldiers had a standard where 1 step (left foot to left foot) was just over 5'. Every thousand (or "mille" as it is in Latin), they would mark the point with a post. To this day they are called "miles". So 1 mile = 1000 x 2 footsteps = 2,000 footsteps

How many footsteps per km?

It will differ. If your average footstep is 1 meter then there will be 1,000 footsteps in a km. You will have to do the math and measure your footsteps. See how many you take in 100 meters and then multiply that number by 10. Or how many you take in 10 meters and then multiply by 100.
