It depends on the number of significant figures from two numbers you are multiplying. But when multiplying you use the same number of significant figures from the numbers you are multiplying with the LEAST number of significant figures.
Example:
92,873.239 * 2 = 200,000 (because the number 2 has only 1 significant figure even tho 92,873.239 has 8 significant figures your answer still only has 1 significant figure)
2.7 X 106 ======= Zeros are superfluous unless needed for significant figures.
three - the first being 5 then 4 and 6 the noughts (0) dont meen anything in maths - they are just a place holder - in this number they arnt even needed! significant figure (SF)
All jobs.
The Arabic people needed a numeral system and made figures, numbers. They based their system off of zero and also made negatives that the Roman numerals lack.
It is only not needed if you know of another method. If FOIL is the only way you know to multiply two binomials, then it is definitely needed.
Three - the two zeros at the end are not needed.

Significant figures are basically the amount of digits in a number. E.g. 2.576 has 4 significant figures 32.545 has 5 significant figures Zeroes before the first non-zero digit and after the last non-zero digit are not counted as significant figures. E.g. 0067.4 has 3 significant figures 67.400 has 3 significant figures 0067.400 has 3 significant figures. In case of thermometer measurement of normal temperatures maximum three digits are significant because most of the thermometers indicate one digit after decimal; as 37.4.
2.7 X 106 ======= Zeros are superfluous unless needed for significant figures.
1. All non-zero numbers are significant 2. Zeros between non-zero digits count 3. Zeros at the beginning of a number do not count 4. Zeros at the end of a number that does not have a decimal are not significant 5. Zeros at the end of a number with a decimal are significant
Because some part of your equation has a figure that limits how many sig figs you can use. Remember the number of sig figs is symbolic of how precise the initial measurements were. For example the number 2.4 is not as precise as 2.45298. So your answer can only be as precise as the LEAST precise measurement you have taken or been given. So in my example above if 2.4 is the least precise measurement then you can only have an answer with two sig figs.
There are 5.9 ft in 1.08 meters. 1 metre = 3.2808399 feet 1.08 metres = 3.54 feet 1.08 meters has three significant figures so the answer has to be three significant figures. An answer can not be more accurate/precise than the starting figure. 3.2808399 is eight significant figures. The instrument needed to get a measurement accurate to that degree would be very very rare if it exists at all.

Mesopotamia made numbers because they needed a way to count their goods. They also needed it to sell their goods. They needed to count their money. Mesopotamia made numbers because they needed a way to count their goods. They also needed it to sell their goods. They needed to count their money.
