0.388888 is the ratio of 388,888 to 1,000,000 . (48,611 to 125,000.)

If the decimal had gone on forever with an infinite number of 8s, then the

number would have been 3/18 ... which is also rational even though the

decimal never ends. A decimal that ends is always a rational number.

A decimal that never ends might or might not be a rational number.
