#1 Bring both decimals to the same number of decimal places by inserting suffix 'zeroes'.

#2 Drop the decimal point

#3 Drop the prefix zero

#4 compare the numbers .

Hence

#1 ; 0.05 & 0.50

#2 ; 005 & 050

#3 ; 5 & 50

#4 Clearly 50 > 5 .

Hence it follows that 0.5 > 0.05
