A Prime number is defined as a number thats divisible only by 1 and by itself.

So you have to check ...

Is 38 divisible by 1 ?

Yes, it is 38 x 1 = 38

It 38 divisible by itself ?

Again, yes : 1 x 38 = 38

Now comes the tricky part ....

You have to find out if 38 is divisible by something else than 1 and 38 ...

Theres a rule, for example, for numbers divisible by 3 : If the sum of the individual numbers is divisible by 3, the whole number is ... but 11 isn´t divisible by 3, so 38 also isn't.

Then, wait .... 38 is an even number, since 37 and 39 aren't.

Even numbers are divisible by 2.

38 / 2 = 19

19 is a prime number.

38 isn't.
