Distance doesn't change with the type of transportation that you take, though it would most likely be faster to use a plane for long distances, while using a plane to go grocery shopping a few blocks away is not only ridiculous, but troublesome considering the amount of time and perparation that would have to be done to even go up in the air.

It would be shorter to drive in a land automobile when travelling short distances, but planes take you to farther places across oceans and over continents faster than any car could take you.
