Yes the equation is parallel and this is why....

when you put the formula 9x+3y=12 in a slope intercept form you'll get

9x+3y=12

9x+3y-12=0

3y= -9x+12

divide by 3

y=-3x+4

12x+4y=18

12x+4y-18=0

4y= -12x+18

divide by 4

y= -3x + 9/2

In order for two equations to be parallel the slope must be equal to each other remember the slop is the m in y=mx+b.

Since both equations have -3 as it's slope that makes them parallel lines.

Are 5x plus 3y equals 3 and -12x plus 20y equals 0 parallel or perpendicular?

Work it out. 5x+3y=3 3y=-5x+3 y=-5/3x+1 -5/3=the slope in this equation -12x+20y=0 20y=12x y=12/20x y=3/5x 3/5=the slope in this equation If the slopes equal each other, the lines are parallel. If they are the negative reciprocal (the fraction flipped upside down and multiplied by -1) of each other, they are perpendicular. I can't believe I just helped someone this lazy.

What is the discriminant of the equation -3x square - 12x plus 7 equals 8?

The equation is equivalent to: -3x2 - 12x - 1 = 0 [you could change signs to get 3x2 + 12x + 1 = 0 but that is not required] The discriminant is (-12)2 - 4*(-3)(-1) = 144 - 12 = 132
