One use would be converting between Fahrenheit & Celsius.
F= 1.8*C + 32, but to calculate Celsius given Fahrenheit, you wind up with C =(F-32)*0. 55555, but using fractions you have C =(F-32)*5/9 which is easier to use & remember.
