It depends on the courses you are doing however if there are choices of:
General Maths
Mathematics
Extension
Extension 1
Extension 2
Then you have to focus on what results you are getting for ex.
General Maths is usually if you are getting between 48%-68% or if you are failing it is an easy way to learn. It is the basic maths for year 9 with a couple of yr 10 challenges.
Mathematics is a little higher and focuses on more algebra formulas to solve questions probably between 70%-80%
The Extensions are even harder and are for people who really enjoy it or/and are excelling at it getting marks between probably 86%-100%.

You should achieve the best result you can possibly get-level 5 is average but you shouldn't get that level as you should have got that in Yr 6 if you do get that level then you are oviously not smart and need menatl training the highest levels you should get are 7's and an eight for maths!!!! if you are a year 7 you should be getting 6's and 7's.
