You can have algebraic fractions but, even there, the letters do represent numbers; except that their values are indeterminate.
It's a common requirement for setting up a password or username. Means it has to have 6 letters (or more) or six numbers or six symbols( ?!/()&*_ things like that) Or three letters and three numbers. Or two letters and two symbols and two numbers. Or something along those lines.
