Binomial nomanclature is the naming system used worldwide to name species. Binomial means "two names" (bi-two nom-name). Species are named by their genus and species, like humans are called homo sapien, homo is the genus, and sapien is the species.

The pathetic censoring system of Wiki took exception to the answer above because it contained thewordhomo. I think I've got it beat! Anyway, I've removed the "offensive language" flag
