What does column mean in math terms?

Columns are well they are basically um sorry. OK I'm back on track. Colum that go up and down. lets say you are making a picture of a multiplication problem. Lets say them problem is 2*2=4 you draw two squares going left to right which are called rows then you draw two squares that go up and down those are columns. At my school we have a chant which will help you here it is.
