If we have an x-y coordinate plane, then the y-intercept is 5. That means that when x is 0, y is 5. From that intercept, go up 3 units and right 1 unit and place your second point. The line goes through these two points (0,5) and (1,8) and continues to go up 3 squares for each square to the right.
