A property is a power that describes how operations behave on numbers, or describes something about numbers

  • Commutative - can be added or multiplied in any order without changing the result. Example: a+b = b+a
  • Distributive - multiplying against a sum is the same as the sum of the multiplications: x(a+b) = ax + bx
  • Even - a number is even if it is divisible by 2. Examples: 6, 22
  • Odd - a number is odd if it is not divisible by 2. Examples: 3, 15
  • Negative - a number is negative if it is less than 0. Examples: -3, -8
  • ... and so on
