Score The term "threescore and ten" is limited to the King James Version, simply because the term is an old English term. In the past the number twenty was referred to as one "score." Thus "threescore and ten" was 3 times 20 plus 10, or 70.
There is a common phase nowadays that "we are all living longer today". It is amazing to reflect on the fact that Moses wrote that we should live to 70-80 in this Psalm (90:10) some 3,500 years ago!
In Moses day, life expectancy for an Egyptian was around 45. At the same time the Hebrews were living to over 70, which is the average life expectancy of a man living in the UK today! Sadly, even today, due to the ravages of diseases such as AIDS in some African countries like Botswana, average life expectancy is only 41!
Why did they live longer back then?
The Hebrews were kept clean physically, morally and spiritually because they were obedient to God's laws, even though they did not fully understand why, they were still obedient. Jehovah's Law protected and guided the Israelites in every facet of life. For example, the regulations on diet, hygiene, and quarantine spared them from many of the diseases that ravaged other nations. Only after the discovery of bacteria in the 19th century did science begin to catch up with God's Law.
In England just over 100 years ago, a surgeon would move from handling a disease ridden corpse in the mortuary to operating on a live subject, using the same instruments and without even washing his hands! He didn't know about bacteria or cross infection, but 3,500 years ago the law said something very different in Numbers 19:11-16.
The Law of Moses also contained concepts of hygiene and disease control, such as the quarantining of sick people and the disposal of human waste, that harmonize with current science. (Deuteronomy 23:13, Leviticus 13:1-59; 14:38, 46;) This is remarkable considering that much of Egyptian medicine in Moses' day was a dangerous mixture of quackery and superstition. In developing lands today, millions could be spared from disease and premature death if the standards of hygiene taught by Moses were practiced.
As an aside, US President Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address begins with Four score and.....
I want to know where in the Bible it tells of how many years a person is guaranteed. I believe it is threescore and ten but I think there are several references to that answer.
13And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel. 14And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
The term "threescore" literally means three times 20 (which is a "score" in old English). So it actually means 1260 days. This means it is 3 1/2 years of 360 days (or a prophetic year) for each year.
Three score and tenMeaningThe span of a life. In the days that this was coined that was considered to be seventy years.OriginThreescore used to be used for sixty, in the way that we still use a dozen for twelve, and (occasionally) score for twenty. It has long since died out in that usage but is still remembered in this phrase. Threescore goes back to at least 1388, as in this from John Wyclif's Bible, Leviticus 12, at that date:"Thre scoor and sixe daies."There are numerous uses of 'threescore' in the Bible. Most of them refer to its simple meaning as the number sixty, for example:"...threescore and ten bullocks, an hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt offering to the Lord."There is a use of it that refers to the span of our lives, in Psalms 90:The days of our years are threescore years and ten;and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow;for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.As with many other Biblical phrases, this was picked up by Shakespeare. In Macbeth, we have:Threescore and ten I can remember well:Within the volume of which time I have seenHours dreadful and things strange; but this sore nightHath trifled former knowings. It's an odd fact that, although Shakespeare took numerous phrases and examples of imagery from the Bible, the word Bible doesn't appear in any of his plays.

Threescore and ten years appears 4 times in the Bible. The passage that I like is: 10. The days of our years [are] threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength [they be] fourscore years, yet [is] their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. (Psalm 90)
Answer:Threescore and ten means "seventy." A "score" equals "twenty." Three twenties equals "sixty" - plus "ten": "seventy."

Not sure, but if it is on the test the answer is 70.
This phrase refers to living to be seventy years old. It comes from the Bible, specifically Psalm 90:10, which states, "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years."

Yes, in the Bible, "four score" refers to the number 80. In Psalm 90:10, it says, "The days of our years are threescore years and ten, and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow." This verse implies that a person's life span is typically 70 years, and if they are strong, they may live to be 80, reflecting on the brevity and toil of life.
Ah, threescore and fifteen is a lovely way of saying 75 in the Bible. It's like a little secret code they used back then. Don't worry if it seems confusing at first, just take your time to appreciate the beauty of these old-fashioned expressions.
